Established 1976, Dortoni now runs five Long Island shops and says it is the preferred cake vendor for more than 30 catering halls. That matters because if your venue's package includes a Dortoni cake, the bakery will upgrade it at 50% off its retail price. Retail cake prices are not published on the site. A tasting upgrade is $9.99.
dortonibakery.com/weddingcakesMany Long Island catering halls include a standard wedding cake in the package, and Dortoni names more than 30 of them as accounts it supplies. The venues shown on its wedding page include Allegria Hotel, Crescent Beach Club, Crest Hollow Country Club, The Lannin, Villa Lombardi's and Water's Edge. If your hall is one of them, the standard cake is vanilla or chocolate with a choice of six standard fillings and standard designs. Anything beyond that is an upgrade, priced at half of Dortoni's retail rate. We could not find the retail rate on the site, so the half-off figure only means something once you have a quote in hand.
The standard tasting covers the base package. The upgraded tasting costs $9.99 and lets you try any two cake types and any six fillings, plus fondant and naked cake designs. Dortoni says its fondant is imported from Italy. Cakes are baked on the day of the wedding, inspected before they leave the shop and inspected again on arrival at the venue.
The fine print is specific. Decorations must be dropped off at the bakery the week before the wedding. Dortoni does not place cake toppers. Fresh flowers have to come from your own florist, and a colored cake board costs extra. None of this is unusual for a high volume bakery, but it does mean a midweek errand you should put on the calendar now.
Eight cake flavors and eleven fillings are on the menu at Bake Me a Cake! by Angela, and the list includes pink champagne and pistachio cake with tres leches, cannoli and raspberry chocolate souffle fillings.
Six cake flavors, plus a gluten-free option, make up the wedding menu at Alpine Pastry Shoppe on Route 111 in Smithtown: vanilla, chocolate, marble, red velvet, carrot and funfetti.
