Dortoni Bakery, established 1976 with five Long Island shops, supplies the standard cake package at more than 30 catering halls and sells couples an upgrade at 50% off its retail price. That single arrangement is why most Long Island couples never buy a cake outright. The Knot lists 50 Long Island bakeries with dollar sign tiers and no per slice figure anywhere. This page lists 16 bakeries and prints the few real prices that exist with the source named. It also explains the cake cutting and delivery fees that decide whether an outside baker makes sense at all.
Established 1976 with five shops, and it supplies the standard cake package at 30 plus catering halls, upgrading at 50% off retail with a $9.99 tasting on its own site.
Alpine Pastry Shoppe at 59 Route 111 in Smithtown lists six standard flavors plus a gluten free cake, and sells cupcakes, cake pops, macarons and pastries for dessert buffets.
Two storefronts, in Islip and Bay Shore, with wedding tasting appointments booked online and no cake prices published on either page we read.
The Plainview shop at 136 Manetto Hill Road runs a dedicated gluten free dessert line and sells wholesale as well as retail; prices are not published.
Supplies cakes to the Long Island venues run by Apogee Events in addition to private orders, with all cakes and fillings made on premises and no published pricing.
A $700 starting price on WeddingWire for the Huntington shop at 1155 East Jericho Turnpike, which also sells five kinds of empanadas and is closed Mondays.
Melville based with eight cake flavors and eleven fillings on its menu, including pink champagne and tres leches, and a $300 starting price on WeddingWire.
WeddingWire shows $7 for the Nesconset studio at 127 Smithtown Boulevard, a per slice figure, and the bakery states everything is made from scratch in small batches.
A dedicated gluten free bakery at 1089 Smithtown Avenue in Bohemia, open retail Wednesday to Sunday, that states it is not a nut free facility and has no wedding cake page.
Founded in 2014 by Lori Baker, it sells full dessert tables that include stands, decor, setup and breakdown, plus sculpted cakes, with no prices on the site.
Huntington based with a $300 starting price on The Knot and gluten free options listed on the storefront; no independent site was found.
East Setauket, where WeddingWire lists $225 to start for display cakes that can be rented or bought, and $4 a slice for buttercream or fondant cakes.
West Babylon based and listed on The Knot with vegan cakes as a specialty, but no price and no independent website were found.
A Coram bakery on The Knot serving Long Island with gluten free cakes as its listed specialty and no published price.
The Lynbrook shop is the only nut free facility on this page, per its Knot storefront, which shows no price.
Hicksville based, certified gluten free and OU Kosher pareve, free of dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, coconut, sesame, fish, crustaceans and legumes, and serving the Hamptons and North Fork.
Dortoni's upgraded tasting is $9.99 on its own site and covers any two cake types, any six fillings and fondant or naked cake designs; retail cake prices are not published. The rest of the real numbers come from WeddingWire. Catalina's Bake Shop in Huntington starts at $700 there. Bake Me a Cake! by Angela in Melville and The Spicy Cupcake in Huntington both start at $300. Beautifauxl Cakes in East Setauket shows $225 for display cakes and $4 a slice for buttercream or fondant, and Fanny Cakes in Nesconset shows $7, which is a per slice figure. Per slice is the unit that matters and almost no one on Long Island publishes it.
WeddingWire's 34 Long Island cake vendors span $225 to $700 as flat starting prices. For scale, The Knot's 2026 study puts the national average cake spend at $540 and Zola puts it at $917. The Wedding Report's 75 guest Long Island estimate has the bakery line at $297 to $363. None of those averages tell you what a three tier fondant cake for 150 costs here, because nobody on the Island prints that either.
A good bakery charges for a tasting and credits it toward the order. It asks your guest count and your venue before naming a price, because the venue sets delivery timing and whether anyone will refrigerate the cake on arrival. Dortoni bakes on the day of the wedding and inspects the cake before it leaves and again when it lands, which is the standard to hold others to. A good baker will also tell you that buttercream in an August tent will not survive, and steer you to fondant or a small display cake with sheet cakes cut in the back. A bad one quotes a flat price without knowing the tier count or the design, then revises it upward. Dietary production is a real differentiator here: No Gluten Kneaded in Bohemia is a dedicated gluten free bakery, and Allie's GF Goodies in Hicksville is certified gluten free and OU Kosher pareve.
Your venue may already include a cake. Most Long Island catering halls bundle one into the per head package, and that is the model Dortoni is built around. It supplies the standard package at venues including Crest Hollow Country Club, Water's Edge and the Allegria Hotel, and charges 50% off retail to upgrade. Hire an outside baker at one of those halls and you may pay twice. Ask the venue for its cake cutting fee in writing; many charge per slice to cut and serve an outside cake, and the fee can exceed the cake.
Then read the bakery's rules. Dortoni wants decorations dropped off the week before, will not place cake toppers, requires fresh flowers to come from your florist, and charges extra for colored cake boards. Delivery and setup are separate lines everywhere we looked, and East End delivery is surcharged. Sugar flowers, hand painting, fondant versus buttercream and tier count are the price drivers, so a $300 starting price is a two tier buttercream for 50 guests and no more.
Long Island's cake supply clusters in central Suffolk and along the Nassau border. Dortoni alone has shops in Levittown, Commack, Port Jefferson, East Norwich and Huntington. Alpine Pastry Shoppe on Route 111 in Smithtown lists a gluten free option among its six standard flavors and sells dessert buffet items from the same counter. Sweet Karma Desserts in Plainview runs a dedicated gluten free line and sells wholesale as well as retail. No Gluten Kneaded is gluten free but states it is not a nut free facility, and The Sweet Peace in Lynbrook is the one nut free facility on this list. Allie's GF Goodies is free of dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, coconut, sesame, fish, crustaceans and legumes and serves the Hamptons and North Fork. Madame Butterfly Cakes in West Babylon lists vegan cakes. If an allergy is in play, ask which facility, not which recipe, because the two are different questions.
Most Long Island catering halls bundle a cake into the per head package, so check before you shop. Dortoni supplies that standard cake at 30 plus halls and sells upgrades at 50% off its retail price. Ask your venue which bakery supplies the package and what an upgrade costs before you book anyone else.
The real unit is the slice, and almost nobody prints it. Beautifauxl Cakes shows $4 a slice on WeddingWire and Fanny Cakes shows $7 there. Flat starting prices on the same page run $225 to $700, but a starting price is a small buttercream tier count, so ask for the per slice rate and the number of servings.
Most venues allow it for a fee. Many Long Island venues charge per slice to cut and serve an outside cake, and that fee can be more than the cake itself. Get the cutting fee in writing, and ask whether the venue will refrigerate the cake on arrival, since Dortoni and others bake the morning of the wedding.
Ask about the facility rather than the recipe. No Gluten Kneaded is dedicated gluten free but states it is not a nut free facility. The Sweet Peace in Lynbrook is a nut free facility, and Allie's GF Goodies is certified gluten free and OU Kosher pareve and excludes eight named allergens.
