Stay near the Nassau line and it's familiar ground, the big Smithtown and Ronkonkoma halls doing the all-inclusive thing a short trip from home. Push past that and you reach the bay towns, Sayville and the South Shore water. Keep going and Suffolk opens all the way up: the North Fork vineyards around Riverhead and Cutchogue, then the Hamptons, then Montauk at the literal end of the road. One county holds a ballroom, a barn, and the open ocean.
So the Suffolk question is really about mileage. More room and more range than Nassau, and a friendlier number per head at the close-in halls, right up until the East End flips the math. But your guest list has to be game to travel for it. For a lot of Island families that's a fast yes, because the payoff at the far end is a vineyard or a room on the water that Nassau simply can't give them.
Close to the Nassau line, the Smithtown and Ronkonkoma halls run the classic all-inclusive Saturday, with Flowerfield in St. James for couples who want gardens with their ballroom. The middle band turns toward the water: Lombardi's on the Bay in Patchogue, the bay rooms around Sayville, and the Three Village Inn holding down the historic end in Stony Brook. Past Riverhead, Giorgio's in Baiting Hollow sits at the gateway to wine country, and then the county becomes the North Fork and the Hamptons, which get pages of their own.

No other county on the Island can run that experiment, and the halls know they're being compared to a barrel room, which keeps every pencil sharp.
