Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum

Eagle’s Nest is a Spanish Revival estate on a bluff over Northport Bay that Suffolk County runs as a museum, and it will rent you the grounds for a wedding. One night a week. Five months a year. Everything else about booking here follows from those two constraints, so start there and work backwards.

Saturday evenings, mid-May to mid-October, and that is the calendar

The rental sheet the museum circulates to inquiring couples is specific: weddings run Saturday evenings beginning the second Saturday in May through the second Saturday in October. Not Fridays. Not Sundays. A handful of Saturdays across five months, for the whole of Suffolk County, at a property people have wanted for decades.

The practical consequence is that lead time here behaves differently from a catering hall on Jericho Turnpike. When we checked, the museum’s own site-rental page said it was booking events and weddings through 2026. If a date matters to you, this is the venue you call first, not third.

The number, and where it comes from

$20,000 for ceremony and reception, up to six hours, in a 4:30 to 10:30pm window. $5,000 for a ceremony only, up to one hour. Both figures are stated as including “all administrative fees and taxes,” which is a genuinely unusual thing to see written down and, if it holds, removes the 20-plus percent surprise that lands on most Long Island quotes.

Attribution matters here. Those numbers come from the museum’s own rental information sheet as distributed to couples through The Knot’s inquiry system, not from vanderbiltmuseum.org, which publishes no fee at all. Confirm both lines with events@vanderbiltmuseum.org before you build a budget on them.

“Blank space” is their phrase, and they mean it literally

The same sheet describes the property as a blank space and says the museum does not provide food, beverage or kitchen facilities. There is no house caterer and no house bar. They recommend working with a planner and hand over a preferred vendor list after your tour. Everything you eat, drink, sit on and cook with arrives on a truck.

Capacities are split by space: up to 250 under the reception tent, up to 125 in the historic mansion courtyard. Abigail Kirsch, a caterer that works the property, describes the Celebration Tent as 6,000 square feet on what was once William K. Vanderbilt II’s golf course. The museum itself does not publish the tent’s dimensions.

Budget accordingly. A $20,000 site fee at a bring-everything venue is not comparable to a $20,000 all-in at a hall, and our cost calculator exists mostly to keep people from making exactly that mistake.

The planetarium, and the trap inside it

The Charles and Helen Reichert Planetarium seats 145 under a 60-foot dome and can be rented for a hosted event, including custom shows narrated by one of the museum’s own astronomers. It is the most interesting rehearsal-dinner room on the North Shore and almost nobody uses it that way.

Read the availability carefully first. The museum lists the planetarium as available Monday through Thursday and Sunday evenings. Weddings are Saturday evenings.
