Topping Rose House

Bridgehampton's restored 1840s house, hotel and restaurant included.

InnEstate

Topping Rose is a 22-room hotel with a Jean-Georges kitchen, sitting on the corner where Bridgehampton’s main street meets the Sag Harbor Turnpike. Their own site publishes capacities for two event spaces and essentially nothing else. No rates, no minimums, no buyout terms. For a Hamptons hotel that is normal, and it is still the first thing you should push on.

The two rooms that carry a number

From the hotel’s event spaces page: the Barn seats up to 60 for lunch or dinner and holds up to 100 for a cocktail reception. The Studio seats up to 100 and holds up to 150 standing. The restaurant, they say, may be bought out for a celebration, with no capacity attached. No square footage is published for any of it.

One line on that page deserves more attention than it gets. The roofdeck is described as available exclusively to guests booked into the Cottage One-Bedroom Suites. If somebody has been selling you a rooftop toast, confirm in writing which room you have to reserve to get it.

1842, then 2011, then 2016

Judge Abraham Topping Rose built the Greek Revival house in 1842. After his death it passed to the Corwith family, and by the 1930s it was operating as the Bull’s Head Inn. Social Life Magazine reports that Bill Campbell and Simon Critchell bought the property in 2011, put Roger Ferris + Partners on the restoration, and opened the hotel in 2013; Jean-Georges Vongerichten took over the restaurant in 2016. Sixteen guest rooms and six one-bedroom suites make the 22.

The practical read: the kitchen and the beds are the same contract, so the vendor list is short by design. The trade is that you will not find a printed price for any of it. Ask for the food and beverage minimum by date, and ask whether the hotel requires a full buyout for a wedding weekend or only recommends one.

This is an unclaimed listing. If you run Topping Rose House, claim it free to add your photos, capacity, packages, and pricing, and sit at the top of The Hamptons.
