Jewish and kosher weddings on Long Island

Two Long Island venues run a glatt kosher kitchen themselves, and five more bring in an outside kosher caterer. Here is what each one says, in its own words, with the page it is on.

Crest Hollow Country Club is the only venue we read that names its supervising agency. Its exclusive in house glatt kosher caterer, New Star Caterers, works from a separate kitchen the club says is endorsed by the Orthodox Union. Floral Terrace says its whole kitchen is glatt kosher, with a full time mashgiach on site, but does not name the agency.

These venues cook non kosher food themselves, and say on their own sites that a glatt kosher caterer can come in. At Windows on the Lake, the caterer koshers the venue’s kitchen and cooks on premises. The Long Island Aquarium names one caterer only: Prestige.

Only three supervising agencies are named anywhere we read

7 caterers

Across every venue and caterer on this page, three name their supervision on their own sites: the Orthodox Union at Crest Hollow, the Vaad Harabonim of Queens for Prestige Caterers and Middle Neck Glatt, and Star-K for Lederman Caterers. Rabbis and interfaith officiants already on this site

Our officiants page lists Rabbi Brian Denker, Rabbi Alan Stein in Plainview and Rabbi Sara Shonfeld in Levittown. It also lists Rabbi David Katz and Fr. Michael Callahan, who co officiate Jewish and Catholic weddings. That page notes Rabbi Stein provides a portable chuppah and ketubah at no charge.

The claims we could not confirm

Some venues are described as kosher capable elsewhere, but their own sites do not say so. We did not find a kosher claim on the sites of Captain Bill’s Bayview House or Flowerfield, although PartySlate lists a kosher kitchen at both. Greenview at Lawrence lists Parve and Dairy (Cholov Yisroel) cooking but never uses the word kosher.

The Woodmere Club’s own site once offered outside kosher caterers, but its domain returned server errors and unrelated casino pages when we checked on 22 September 2026. A January 2026 report says it no longer operates as a club. Our Woodmere Club page explains what to confirm before any deposit.

A rabbi who is clergy of a congregation is squarely on New York's list of people who may solemnise a marriage. A rabbi ordained online, or one flying in without a congregation, is a different question, and it is contested in the appellate department that covers Nassau and Suffolk. Who may legally solemnise a marriage in New York.

Who controls the caterer, and who certifies the kitchen, are two different questions

This is the part of a kosher wedding that couples reasonably expect a venue to explain, and almost none does. There are three separate questions and a venue's website usually answers none of them: who decides which caterer cooks, who certifies the kitchen, and whether those are the same party.

We read 26 Long Island venues and synagogue halls for a written policy. 5 publish an exclusivity sentence naming one caterer. 16 publish nothing that establishes a mechanism at all. And the number that publish a list of approved kosher caterers, the thing couples search for, is zero.

Two venues do publish an approved caterer list, and neither is a kosher list. One names fifteen caterers with no kashrut policy and no certifying body anywhere on the page, and several of them make no kosher claim on their own sites. The other publishes its panel only as a PDF whose text cannot be read. So an approved list, where one exists, is a list of businesses the venue will admit, not a statement about supervision.

The four venues that name one caterer and mean it

Where a venue does answer, it answers by exclusion. Each of these publishes the sentence itself, so there is no ambiguity about whether an outside glatt caterer is possible.

“New Star Caterers is the Crest Hollow Country Club's exclusive in-house Glatt kosher caterer.” Crest Hollow Country Club
“Lederman Caterers is the exclusive caterer at Temple Israel of Great Neck.” Temple Israel of Great Neck
“W Kosher Events, LLC, is the exclusive caterer of Temple Beth-El of Great Neck.” Temple Beth-El of Great Neck

Sands Point Preserve reaches the same place differently: its food service is run by a contract caterer that presents a glatt kosher brand as its in house option. One contradiction worth printing rather than resolving. Temple Israel names one caterer as exclusive, while a certifying body's own list carries a differently named glatt caterer at the same address. Both are first party, they disagree, and we are not going to pick.

The clearest explanation of the mechanism on Long Island comes from a venue with no kosher kitchen at all. Windows on the Lake publishes that an outside glatt kosher caterer koshers its kitchen and cooks on the premises under that caterer's own rabbi. It names neither the caterer nor the rabbi, so you would still have to ask, but it is the only page we found that describes how the arrangement actually works.

Three certifying bodies publish a Long Island list you can actually check

If a caterer tells you it is certified, the certifier's own list is where you verify it. Three publish something usable, and two of the biggest national agencies publish nothing we could read.

KOF-K Kosher SupervisionNot usablenone
Vaad of Long Island (VLI)Not usablenone

The Queens Vaad's list is the best of them, served as plain pages with the entries in the markup, and it carries Long Island caterers as well as Queens ones. Star-K's is filterable by state and category and links a letter of certification for each entry. The Five Towns Vaad hides its list behind a load more button, though the listings are all in the page data behind it. The Orthodox Union's restaurant directory and Kof-K's certified companies page both defeated us: the OU's listing pages carry the business name in the page title and nowhere in the body, and Kof-K's returns an error to anything but a browser. Both certify Long Island caterers. Neither makes that checkable from a list.

There is no separately published Vaad of Long Island list. The initials appear as a supervision symbol on one community list with no findable publisher behind them, so if a caterer cites it, ask who the rabbinic authority is by name.

Kosher, glatt kosher, and glatt kosher under a named hashgacha are three different claims

The wording matters more than it looks. Of the 14 caterers we read, three publish both the word glatt and a named certifying body: Regal cites Kof-K, Lederman cites Star-K, and New Star's Orthodox Union certification appears on the venue's page rather than its own. Four name a body without claiming glatt. One claims glatt without naming a body. Two publish neither, including one that appears on a dozen venue pages as a kosher caterer and makes no kosher claim anywhere on its own site.

One name to be careful with: a caterer with the word glatt in its business name publishes no certification sentence on its catering page and appears on a Vaad list as a butcher rather than a caterer. A word in a name is not a supervision claim.

So the question to ask a caterer is not whether they are kosher. It is which body certifies them, whether the certification covers off premises catering, and whether they will send the letter of certification. Two of the three usable lists link that letter directly.

What nobody on Long Island publishes: the mashgiach and the Saturday

We looked for the two things that decide the shape of a kosher wedding and found silence on both.

On the mashgiach, no Long Island venue, caterer or synagogue publishes who pays, whether presence is continuous through the event, or whether the fee is separate from the catering. Both local Vaadim run mashgiach application pages for supervisors and neither publishes a presence or fee policy. The only quotable statements are generic, including one certifier's own line that establishments it certifies are always under continuous supervision.

On Shabbat, not one page we read publishes a Saturday rule, an end of Shabbat start time, or a holiday closure. We are not going to calculate a sunset or infer a start time from one, so the honest answer is that this is a question for the rabbi and the venue together, in writing, before a date is held.

Those two gaps are worth a phone call each. Ask who the mashgiach is, who pays for the mashgiach, how many hours after sundown the room can be ready, and what happens to the timeline if you are wrong about sundown.

Short answers, with the source for each

Which Long Island wedding venues have a glatt kosher kitchen?

Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, whose in house glatt kosher caterer, New Star Caterers, works from a separate kitchen the club says is endorsed by the Orthodox Union. Floral Terrace in Floral Park says its whole kitchen is glatt kosher, with a mashgiach on site.

Can I bring a kosher caterer to a regular Long Island venue?

At several, yes. Windows on the Lake, Leonard’s Palazzo, Sea Cliff Manor and De Seversky Mansion each say on their own sites that a glatt kosher caterer can come in. The Long Island Aquarium allows one kosher caterer only, Prestige.

What is the difference between kosher style and kosher?

Kosher style means food that resembles a kosher menu without kosher supervision. Sea Cliff Manor and De Seversky both cook kosher style in house, and bring in an outside caterer when a family needs glatt kosher.

How this page was built

We read the labeled facts table on every one of the 164 venue profiles on this site and sorted each venue by what its row actually says, not by its tag. On this page a venue or vendor is listed only when its own website makes the claim, and each row links the page where we read it. First party means the venue’s own website or rate card. Marketplace means The Knot, WeddingWire, Zola, Wedding Spot, Eventective, PartySlate or Here Comes The Guide, and the row names which one.

Sources were read in September 2026. Nothing here is added, rounded, averaged or estimated. Being on this page is free, and no venue paid for its place. A venue that sees an error can send a correction.
