Bayville is 1.5 square miles of village at the end of a bridge, facing Greenwich across the Sound, and the Crescent Beach Club has the sand. Not beach access. Its own white sand beach, with the ballroom sitting above it behind a wall of glass. That combination of a barefoot ceremony and a hard roof for dinner, with no tent invoice attached, is close to unique in Nassau County.
The club calls itself “Long Island’s only true beachfront wedding and event destination” and says it has been running events for over 30 years. The address is 333 Bayville Avenue, on the Sound side of the village. The Grand Ballroom is described on the club’s own site as having high ceilings, palm trees, chandeliers and “an entire glass wall of doors and windows” facing the water. That description is theirs, quoted as theirs. We have not walked the room.
There is a restaurant on the property as well, Ocean, running its own lunch and dinner service. Useful if you want the rehearsal dinner or the day-after breakfast on the same piece of land instead of sending forty people back over the bridge and finding somewhere in Locust Valley that will take them.
The club’s website publishes no seating capacity at all. The closest thing to a number on it is the guest-count dropdown on the inquiry form, which offers 1 to 50, 51 to 100, 101 to 150, 151 to 200, and 200+. That last bucket is doing a lot of work.
The venue’s Cvent supplier profile lists a seating capacity of 400 and a standing capacity of 550. We are naming that source deliberately, because it is a listing profile rather than the club’s own site, and listing profiles go stale without anyone noticing. If your list runs past 200, get the number from the club in writing before you do anything else.
A ceremony on sand is a ceremony at the mercy of the forecast, and the club does not publish a weather policy anywhere on its site. So ask two things on the tour. Who decides to move it inside, and by what hour of the day that call has to be made. A venue that says “the couple calls it by noon” is telling you something real. One that will not commit to an hour is telling you something too.
Then ask what the ballroom looks like with the doors shut and rain running down the glass, because on a Sound-facing wall in October that is a live possibility rather than a hypothetical. If the room only works with the doors open, you have found the thing you needed to find. Compare against the rest of our beach venues and the wider waterfront list before you decide.
Nearly everyone comes over the bridge across Mill Neck Creek. The club’s own post on Bayville says the current span is the fourth, built in 1938, and that the first went up in 1898. The same post puts the village at 6,669 people as of the 2010 census, incorporated in 1919, 1.5 square miles in total. It is a small place with a narrow way in.
Which matters on a summer Saturday afternoon, when the public beaches at Ransom, Stehli and Center Island are pulling their own traffic through the same choke point. Put a drive time on the invitation card, not just an address. And tell the off-Island half of your list not to trust the estimate their phone gives them on a Tuesday.
