Palmer Vineyards

Palmer rents you the property for six hours and the outdoor music stops at ten. Both facts sit in plain type on the vineyard’s own weddings page, which already puts it ahead of most of the North Fork on candour. Bob Palmer planted here in 1983. The Massoud family of Paumanok owns it now. The wine behind your bar was grown in the rows behind your guests, and you are contractually required to buy some of it.

What six hours buys, and the one number they hold back

The site rental covers the Tasting Room, the Back Patio, the Lawn Area, the Pavilion and the Farm House, and the vineyard closes to the public on your wedding day. The rental window is stated as a “6 hour time frame.” The fee itself is not published: Palmer says only that it “varies by season and day of the week.”

Aggregators put the site rental at $12,000 to $15,000. We could not find that figure anywhere on Palmer’s own site, which is why it is not in our fact table, we are not going to launder an aggregator’s number into a range that looks sourced. Treat it as unconfirmed and ask for the grid by month and by day. Vineyards that price this way usually have one.

The line items, exactly as Palmer prints them

“There is a $800 staffing fee for the use of Palmer Vineyards employees”, five people, listed as two managers and three servers. Security is a separate $200 “to be paid by the licensee.” A $1,000 security deposit is due at contract signing, alongside a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the site rental. The balance is due 30 days before the wedding, and Palmer states that missing that payment forfeits the deposit and releases the date. All costs are subject to New York State sales tax.

That is more fee transparency than most Suffolk venues offer, and it is the kind of thing worth setting next to the published site-fee grids we pulled together on Cutchogue before you decide the North Fork is uniformly expensive. It is not. It is unevenly disclosed.

The bar is the whole negotiation

Palmer states it is “not licensed for food or liquor consumption,” so an outside caterer is required. Palmer also states its staff is “NOT responsible for the set up or breakdown of any party rentals, including tents, tables, chairs, lighting, and wedding décor”, that job is yours to assign, and to pay for. Wedding parties “are required to purchase a minimum of 5 cases of wine at a 20% discount.” New York State beer is available. Anything else needs the proper permits, which is a real constraint if your family expects a full liquor bar.

Then the curfew: “Local conditions require that there is no amplified music outdoors after 10pm.” Not a suggestion, and not something a generous tip fixes. Plan the last hour indoors or plan to end at ten, and tell the band before you book them, not after.

1983, the Massouds, and the address half the internet gets wrong

Robert Palmer founded the vineyard in 1983 and died in 2009. In 2018 his daughter, Kathy Le Morzellec, sold the 60-acre property to the Massoud family of neighbouring Paumanok Vineyards, with RiverheadLOCAL reporting a closing expected 1 August. Palmer’s own site still runs Bob’s line about his name being on every bottle.

The address on Palmer’s site is 5120 Sound Avenue, Riverhead, NY 11901. Several directories file it under Aquebogue, which is a hamlet inside the Town of Riverhead rather than a contradiction, but it will split your search results and confuse a car service. One more practical note from the visitor page: reservations are required for groups of six or more, and buses, vans and limos need an appointment made in advance. That applies to the welcome tasting the day before, which is exactly when a coach turns up unannounced.
