The Fox Hollow

Fox Hollow publishes its fee schedule. Read that again, because on Long Island it is close to unheard of — most halls will not put a single number on a website. Their wedding FAQ names the facility fee, the guest minimum, the deposit, the rehearsal charge, and what they bill you for feeding your photographer. So this is one of the few venue pages on this site where we can be specific without calling anyone.

The 22 percent that lands at the bottom of every bill

The FAQ is direct about it. There is no service charge; instead the bill carries an “additional 22% Facility Fee and Sales Tax.” Twenty-two percent on food and bar, then New York sales tax on top of that. Run that math on your real headcount before you fall in love with a room. Our cost calculator takes a facility fee as an input for exactly this situation.

The guest floor is published too. “Generally the minimum guarantee is between 100 and 120 guests,” in rooms that work for “as little as 50 guests & up to 285 guests.” Those two facts sit together honestly: a fifty-person wedding fits the space, but you are probably still paying for a hundred. The useful question is which room carries which guarantee, and in which month.

January through March costs less than April through December. A morning wedding costs less than an afternoon or a twilight. Fox Hollow says both out loud. Almost nobody else on Jericho Turnpike does.

The line items you would otherwise discover in month seven

The first deposit is “$1000 payable via, Credit Card, Cash or Check.” The balance is calculated and scheduled one week before the event, which is tighter than a lot of couples expect and worth knowing when you are timing the last of the cash gifts and the final vendor payments.

A rehearsal walk-through is $250, Monday through Thursday, booked two or three weeks out. Hold the rehearsal dinner at their restaurant, Volpe, and the fee is waived. A day-of rehearsal is complimentary. If your centerpieces arrive needing assembly rather than packed and ready, that is a $250 set-up fee.

Vendors do not count toward your guest count, and their meals are billed at “2/3 the price per person once you exceed your minimum guarantee.” That is a fairer arrangement than most, and it means a band of eight is a real number you can calculate rather than a surprise. Outside vendors generally are welcome, with a certificate of liability insurance filed at least a week ahead.

A four-tier buttercream cake is included. Bring a cake from an outside bakery instead and you get “$2 per person credit toward an upgrade” — a credit, not money back. Plates, glassware, silverware, white or ivory linens and a long list of napkin colors are in the package, as are votives, menus, place cards, table numbers, and the cake knife.

Six hours, or five if you get married somewhere else

Receptions run six hours when the ceremony happens on site and five when it does not. Extra time and an after-party are available at additional charge. The bar is a full premium open bar on every wedding, not a tiered upsell, which removes one of the more tedious negotiations from the process.

The chapel package includes six fresh flower pedestals down the aisle, a flowered archway and an aisle runner, and you can decide indoors or outdoors up to two hours before the event. One catch worth flagging: the FAQ says your entertainment company must supply the ceremony music and all its own equipment, because there is no house sound system to plug into. A microphone for the officiant is included. Tell your band this early.

Eight acres, three rooms, and a hotel out the back

The estate is eight acres at 7725 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury, and the wedding side is not one room but three. The Garden Terrace is the largest, with floor-to-ceiling windows onto the gardens, two bars, a cocktail room that works indoors or out, an outdoor chapel and a connecting suite with its own private garden. The Winter Garden Pavilion is the skylit one, with a fireplace and chandeliers. The Somerley sits off in the north gardens and is sold on separation from the rest of the property.

The Inn at the Fox Hollow is a 145-room all-suite hotel next door at 7755 Jericho Turnpike, which is the whole reason people book this place for a full weekend rather than a night. Valet parking comes with every event, coat check is complimentary in winter, and the property is accessible by ramp and elevator.

What the FAQ still does not tell you

For all that candour, three things are missing. There is no per-head food price anywhere on the site, so the 22 percent is a percentage of a number you still have to ask for. Individual room capacities are not published, only the 50-to-285 range for the property as a whole. And nothing states how many weddings the building runs at once on a Saturday in June, which for a property this size is the question that decides whether the night feels private.
